BIO

Urvita Bhatia is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Deputy Director of the Addictions and Related Research Group at Sangath. Her research focuses on developing, evaluating, and implementing mental health interventions in community and health-system settings, particularly in resource-constrained contexts. Her work spans common mental disorders, substance use, adolescent mental health, and gender-based violence.

She has led formative research, clinical trials and implementation research examining how evidence-based interventions can be adapted, integrated, and sustained within routine settings in India. These programmes are delivered through partnerships between multi-disciplinary teams and state health departments in Goa and Karnataka, with a focus on strengthening mental health care within public systems. She has also contributed to national policy as a member of the Government of India task force that developed operational guidelines for mental, neurological, and substance use disorders under the Ayushman Bharat programme.
