Communications and Engagement

BIO

I am a highly skilled communications officer at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Where I have honed my communication skills in crafting compelling content for various media channels and supporting the implementation of the Unit’s communications and public engagement strategies.

I have wealth of experience in numerous clinical trials and served as a supervisor for the Men 5 and NoPV clinical trials where I managed a team of over 20 Field Research Assistants.

My passion for communication and media led me to work with the University's public relations office, where I created content for the school's website and managed social media accounts. My exceptional communication skills were evident during the COVID-19 pandemic when I scripted a sensitisation video that was widely played nationwide by both national and private TV stations.

I was an active student leader during my time at the University of The Gambia. I served as the president of the Journalism Students' Association, where I was responsible for managing the association's activities and representing the students' interests.

Prior to this role, I also served as an IPRO for the students’ union and as a member of the legislative body and students' welfare committee

I am an active volunteer with a strong commitment to social justice issues affecting women and girls in our society. I volunteer with GirlsTalk Organisation, a non-profit in The Gambia with the objective of addressing issues affecting women and girls in our society and AfreeCAN, a mental health advocacy group.

I have great interest in creative writing and have written a book review on "Recollections of an African child" authored by Famara Fofana.

I am committed to pursuing a career in science and health communications to translate research outcomes for better understanding.
