In 2022, I joined the Department of Health Services Research and Policy within the Faculty of Public Health and Policy at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) as a Research Fellow. My work focused on developing methodological approaches to identify cancer recurrence using linked national datasets, as part of a project funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). In 2024, I was promoted to Assistant Professor, continuing my contributions to the same project alongside broader academic responsibilities within the faculty.

In 2025, I started a full-time role as Senior Health Data Scientist at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. Alongside this role, I maintain part-time academic commitments at LSHTM as Co-Module Organizer for the distance learning module Basic Statistics for Public Health and as a tutor for Statistical Methods in Epidemiology. I also remain actively involved in the cancer recurrence project led by Professor Walker in the Department of Health Services Research and Policy.

I hold editorial positions as Section Editor for Diagnosis in Cancer Control (SAGE) and Associate Editor for Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment (SAGE). Additionally, I regularly review manuscripts for several academic journals and have served as Guest Editor for special issues related to nutrition and bowel cancer. I am a member of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North Thames, where I review Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) forms for newly funded projects. Furthermore, I hold an honorary research fellowship with the National Bowel Cancer Audit (NBOCA) and serve on the scientific advisory group for the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme (FFFAP). I am also a member of Cancer Research UK’s Early Detection and Diagnosis Research Committee and the Prevention and Population Research Committee.

Prior to joining LSHTM, I worked as a Research Assistant in the School of Population Health & Environmental Sciences at King’s College London and held a Research Fellowship at Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for three years.

In the Past, I completed a PhD jointly funded by Bournemouth University and University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, within the Department of Medical Sciences and Public Health at Bournemouth University. My doctoral research focused on identifying sub-groups of patients with iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) who exhibit an increased or reduced risk of gastrointestinal cancer. As part of this work, I developed and deployed a certified software medical device (the IDIOM App) to predict gastrointestinal cancer risk based on key clinical factors, including age, sex, blood haemoglobin concentration, and mean cell volume. This digital tool was endorsed by the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) in their 2021 guidelines for managing iron deficiency anaemia in adults and is currently used by healthcare professionals in the UK and internationally.

My academic background includes an MSc in Statistics from University College Dublin (UCD), an MSc in Computation from The University of Manchester, a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics, and a BSc (Hons) in Statistics from Aleppo University, Syria.
