BIO
Am a practicing clinician who completed a MSc in public health in developing countries in 2009, I returned to the school to work on diagnostic algorithms for NTDs, and subsequently completed a PhD on clinical management visceral leishmaniasis at the Institute of Tropical Medicine/University of Antwerp.
After a long period working as Medical Advisor, Asia for Médecins Sans Frontières, I am now the Medical Director of the international Planetary Health NGO, Health in Harmony.
I hold long-standing interests in Neglected Tropical Diseases, with a particular focus on Leishmaniasis. I've also been involved in research on anthropometric cut-offs in the management of severe malnutrition, and the potential utility of biomarkers in prognostication of sepsis.
More recently I have been involved in One Health research, looking at the role and interaction between human health and deforestation. I am interested in evidence backed operationalisation of Planetary Health.
I continue in an honourary capacity at the LSHTM as an Associate Professor, and as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Tropical Medicine at Nagasaki University.
