Shirine is Director of Operations for the LSHTM Clinical Trials Unit (CTU). She works with the CTU co-directors to shape the strategic direction of the CTU and has oversight of all CTU operational activities, including trial management, data management, IT infrastructure and support, administration and compliance with regulatory and funder policies. She is keen to expand the support available to staff and partners involved in clinical trials across LSHTM and strengthen opportunities for exchange of best practice through the emerging LSHTM Clinical Trials Network.
Prior to starting her current position in November 2022, Shirine spent six years at KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya. She worked as Programme Manager and Department Manager for the Epidemiology and Demography Department. During this time she also provided management oversight to the Hararghe Health Research Partnership in Eastern Ethiopia where she remains a member of the management team. Before moving to Kenya, Shirine worked as a Programme Manager for LSHTM in London and was responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of maternal, newborn and child health evaluation grants in Ethiopia, India and Nigeria.
Shirine has a Doctorate in Public Health from LSHTM focused on Equitable Global Health Research Partnerships, an MSc in Management from Cranfield University and an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
Before joining LSHTM in 2011, Shirine worked for over a decade in organisation development, research management, grant management and operations at Ashridge Consulting, Ashridge Business School and English Nature.
