RESEARCH INTERESTS
Saidi Kapiga has more than 30 years public health research experience, with particular interests on investigating the individual risk factors and underlying structural factors associated with HIV and other health problems in Africa, and evaluation of public health interventions in a range of populations. Currently, he is involved in a range of studies conducted in Mwanza city, including a clinical trial to assess the impact of a social-worker intervention on reducing post-hospital mortality among HIV patients; observational studies to determine the incidence and determinants of hypertension among HIV-infected and uninfected adults and adolescents and young people; and in a study to develop and evaluate an intervention programme to screen and treat or refer adolescents aged 10-19 years for a range of common conditions using routine health check-ups. Saidi is also a Co-Principal Investigator of the MRC-funded study to investigate substance use disorders among men in urban and rural communities in South Africa.
