BIO
I am a Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at LSHTM and Senior Science Advisor of the World Heart Federation. I currently co-lead the NIHR funded IHCoR-Africa Group and CARisSA project to improve the management of people with cardiovascular diseases in Kenya and The Gambia. I am also leading a collaboration with the Danish Red Cross to improve the care of people with cardiometabolic conditions in humanitarian settings. I am also collaborating in other projects on cardiometabolic diseases in western africa and Peru. I have led several large international research projects, including the MRC-funded PIC4C Scale-Up Study, which evaluated the integrated management of hypertension, diabetes, and HIV in a primary care setting in Kenya. In addition to my academic roles, I am actively engaged in international organizations, serving in leadership positions at the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases, the Foundation for Innovative Diagnostics, the Medicines Patent Pool, and the World Health Organization, where I am a member of several scientific advisory and technical groups, helping guide research and policy decisions in the field of cardiovascular diseases. I am also Executive Editor of the Global Heart Journal, the leading journal on global cardiovascular research
