I teach and supervise in global health and health policy and systems research, with a focus on helping students understand how and why health interventions work differently across settings. My teaching draws on my extensive real-world and field-based research experience in multiple counties of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia - across malaria, infectious diseases, immunisation, family planning, and nutrition, and emphasises the practical challenges of implementing and sustaining programmes in complex health systems.

A central theme of my teaching is the use of theory-driven and realist approaches to study implementation, policy, and system change. I support students to move beyond descriptive accounts of success or failure, towards explanatory analyses that consider context, mechanisms, and institutional conditions. I also place strong emphasis on methodological flexibility, encouraging students to adapt and combine qualitative, quantitative, and comparative methods in response to the questions they are asking.

I supervise MSc and doctoral students (PhD and DrPH) working on a wide range of global health topics and contribute to capacity strengthening through collaborative research, mentorship, and co-produced learning with academic and policy partners. My teaching approach prioritises clarity, reflexivity, and the development of analytical skills that are relevant to both academic research and applied policy work.
